I blew up my Peugeot Again……… I quit.

Posted in Uncategorized on April 28, 2009 by mopedjosh

So My peugeot has proven to be the fastest moped ever with the longevity of fruit fly. The low end was so intimidating I didnt like it, and I like to go fast period. I had maybe less than an hour of run time on the bike before I blew another hole in my piston, Timing is perfect, seems to have a good squish band, blah blah, I quit mopeds. I am going to sell my soul to the Devil and buy a frickin Honda Big Ruckus. Screw Mopeds Big ruckus’s have reclining seats and cool cup holders.small_cbriders_jim Did I mention all the cool people I might meet by riding one?

But seriously, I feel a bit of a failure. I have blown up three pistons, and inquired the help of many people with much better developed frontal lobes than my own, and I can still not figure this out. The Pug has been a costly venture that I cant honestly continue to justify. Mopeds=fun, But lately the Pug has = fail. And for those of you who do not know Fail+moped= @#$%. Anyway I am not giving up, I am just not sure where to start. I think the kit has got to go, and possibly the stroker crank. I am probably going to ripoff someone else’s setup. I just want the Pug to run and be fun. I am going to play a bit with another cylinder and compare the differences between my current port timing setup with the stroker crank as opposed to that of another kit. The only thing I can see this being is either weird port timing, or my squish band being way to small, and me having insane amounts of compression causing detonation. Pics of blown up parts to come…. @#$%

So I was placing my head on and my stupid stud broke, I am going to replace the tomos studs with pug ones. the stock tomos studs are girly and lame. More to come.

So I must say the little I have ridden the peugeot has been very fun.
Step One:
Before I get ahead of myself I should say that POR 15 is the best tank sealer in the world. I am truly amazed at how well this product seemed to work. I followed the instructions and a few days later my tank was perfect again. This junk saved my paint job for sure. If you are reading this and are thinking about using kreem DONT!!! I have used both products on the same tank now, and I can tell you that Kreem should just be called Crap, cuz it sucks compared to the POR 15.
POR 15
I ran a blow dryer through the tank to make set up times a bit quicker and to make sure the POR sealed well.

Tank sealed!
Step Two:
I was lucky enough to be able to use Seattle mopeds Shop to reassemble the Pug. It worked out mutually well for the shop and me as I am anal retentive about my moped work space and need a clear bench to focus. So I cleaned the shop up a bit too. Anyway I did a bunch of tweaking and reran all my brake cables and such well I had the bike in pieces.

The Bike is together and rode it around a bunch this last weekend, Unfortunalty it still needs some more tweaking before it is ride able. I got a little too happy and slapped a Naz Spring monkey into my bike, The only weight he had was a 40pounder so my bike wont variate anymore :( I have a few on order and I am sure I will be back in business in no time.

I also had naz weld up a skid plate to my exhaust because I keep bashing it on right hand turns.

Anyway, much more to come so stay tuned.
